Bodacious Board Care

You have a brand new, gorgeous board! Now what? Here's what's up,

Proper care and maintenance are essential for preserving the beauty and longevity of your cutting board.

Here are step-by-step instructions for care:

Cleaning:

1. Rinse Immediately: After each use, rinse the cutting board with warm water to remove food particles and debris.

2. Mild Soap: If needed, use a small amount of mild dish soap and a soft sponge or cloth to gently scrub the surface. Avoid abrasive scrubbers or brushes that can scratch the wood.

3. Sanitization: To disinfect your cutting board, use a diluted bleach solution (1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water). Apply it to the board, scrub, and rinse thoroughly. Never submerge board or run it through a dishwasher.

4. Drying: After washing, towel dry the cutting board immediately, as prolonged exposure to moisture can cause warping.

Maintenance:

1. Oil Application: Regularly apply food-grade mineral oil or a specialized cutting board oil to the board's surface. This helps to maintain the wood's moisture, prevent it from drying out, and preserve its finish. Apply the oil, then wipe off any excess.

For best results allow it to absorb for a few hours or overnight, and then remove the excess. To seal it you can add beeswax or a board conditioner, in order to maintain the life and looks of your board.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat

Tips:

1. Separate Cutting Boards: Use separate cutting boards for different types of foods, such as one for meats and another for vegetables. This helps prevent cross-contamination.

2. Avoid Cutting Hard Objects: Do not use your cutting board to cut through bones, hard objects, or frozen foods. This can damage the board's surface and edges.

3. Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect your cutting board for deep cuts, gouges, or excessive wear. If you notice significant damage, consider sanding and re-oiling the board to restore its surface.

4. Storage: Store the cutting board in a dry, well-ventilated area when not in use. Elevated storage, such as with rubber feet or on a drying rack, can help prevent moisture buildup underneath.

5. Refresh the Surface: Over time, the surface of your cutting board may become rough or have minor scratches. You can sand it lightly with fine-grit sandpaper to restore its smoothness, followed by re-oiling. You may also wax it to seal it.

By following these care instructions, you can ensure that your cutting board remains sanitary, retains its beautiful appearance, and serves you well for years to come.
